With just weeks to go before the playoffs, the stakes could not be higher as the battle for the premiership tightened over the weekend. Adelaide Rush capitalized on their matchups against Sydney Sirens, securing six vital points to stay on top of the standings with 29 points. Perth Inferno, not far behind at 26 points, split results with Melbourne Ice in an intense showdown at home. Every game delivered drama, showcasing the league’s depth as standout players from each team continued to make an impact.
Saturday Feb 1
Adelaide Rush 8-3 Sydney Sirens Rush dominated offensively, outshooting Sirens 45-17. Goals from Nat Ayris, Kate Tihema, and a variety of assists showcased the team’s depth. Sirens found the net through Sarah Edney and Kelsie Lang, but couldn’t keep pace with Rush’s relentless attack.
Melbourne Ice 4-3 Perth Inferno (OT) A tightly contested matchup saw Ice edge out Inferno in overtime, emphasizing the depth and growth of both teams. Neither side relied solely on star power, with a mix of scorers contributing across the board. Ice controlled possession, outshooting Inferno 58-28.
Sunday Feb 2
Adelaide Rush 4-1 Sydney Sirens Jordan Kulbida was the difference-maker with two goals, while Kaitlyn Malthaner and Jamie Lunn added to Rush’s dominant performance. Outshooting Sirens 47-17, Rush cemented their lead at the top of the standings with another strong team effort.
Perth Inferno 5-2 Melbourne Ice Elizabeth Scala, Sara Sammons, and Alivia Del Basso powered Inferno to an impressive victory over Ice. Despite Christina Julien and Stephenie Cochrane putting Ice on the scoreboard, Inferno controlled play, flipping the shot count to a tighter 26-24 edge on Sunday.
